Dearest Nicky, we had plenty of laughs together at conferences and RNA parties. I joked with you when you left romance and 'turned to crime'. I knew you had been ill but I am very sad that you lost your battle with this horrible disease. My abiding memory of you will be at the Mechanics' Institute at one of the Winter parties having a good old catch up. I bought 'Ladywell' and had hoped to have you sign it for me . . . in my heart, you have. Rest in peace my lovely friend.
